Having the right soil structure is critical ; if your soils pH levels are screwy your vegetables won’t be provided enough nutriments.  If your levels are off you can get some garden lime and try to hit a pH of 6.5 ( ideal ). 
Wait 4-5 weeks before you considering planting any veggies.

Your aim here should be planting vegetables that are suitable for your climate?  With seasonal changes you could have an idea of what you can plant to be sure that your plants that you can rotate easily.  You need to try to rotate veg that will enable you to have food you can harvest every single day of the year.

Most plants you’re thinking of planting can be purchased as seedling.  You should look to plant your veg to run north / sun.  The reason for this that it will permit your veg to receive more sunlight while limiting the quantity of shade. 

A good vegetable garden needs masses of water but make allowances for sufficient drainage for runoff and to avoid your garden getting waterlogged.
