tiger lily

There are many varieties of lily to pick from, one of the most interesting is called the Tiger Lily. This flower is also known as the Lilium columbianum in North America, although there are also different variations of the Tiger Lily grown in other parts of the planet.

This specific species is cultivated in the West area of the United States and Canada. The Tiger Lily prefer places which are wooded, but where the trees are not too thick and sunlight can reach its leaves.

The Tiger Lily’s native region stretch from Canada’s British Columbia southward to the northern portion of the state of California. It is also spotted as far east as Idaho and the mountains in Nevada which aren’t in a desert climate.

When you look at a Tiger Lily, the attractiveness is obvious. They’re not large plants, normally only a little over a foot tall, but the coloration of the flower petals is genuinely remarkable. Normally the petals tend to be a yellow or orangish color.

Despite what you would think, because of their name, these blooms aren’t so much striped as they are really made of spots – they have a touch of dark speckles over the petals. The blooms themselves tend to hang down just like the way a Columbine flower does, but the petals go back and up to make a beautiful shape. The leaves are arranged in spirals about the stem. The contours and designs for this flower are visually appealing and at times bold crimson can be spotted on areas of the blooms.

If by chance you come across a Tiger Lilly in their wild habitat, please just observe their beauty and let them keep growing. Although these species are not close to extinction, picking the flowers will kill their capacity to reproduce for the upcoming season. This is due to the fact that the blooms themselves are the part of the plant the bulbs are formed from.

In earlier times, these bulbs were a type of food for various tribes of indigenous peoples that lived in the areas where the Tiger Lilly is found naturally. The bulbs have a somewhat bitter taste, possessing a flavor which is somewhat like the herb pepper.

Growing the Tiger Lilly in your garden is very easy to do provided you are located where the species grows naturally. The ground should be not dry and fertilized properly for them to thrive.

As a pift, Tiger Lily blooms can be great – the orange color indicates valor. This flower is normally presented to woman, like most lilies. An artist would appreciate such a flower – since the speckles on the petals can represent fearless quirkiness because they are different with to every single flower.
