I grew these tomatoes from seed and planted them in May along with Celebrity and Beefsteak. My garden plot does not get full sun. In fact, it probably gets more hours of shade than it does sun. But these tomatoes matured faster and produced more than the Celebrity and Beefsteak. In addition, the flavor was wonderful! They are soooo sweet. They don’t keep well (probably because of the sugar content) but if you want that truly homegrown sweet taste that you remember growing up, this is the one.

This tomato will indeed mature well even with limited sun. It also stays sweet to the last little cold berry harvested in November! If conditions aren’t perfect it may turn out a little smaller that usual but the taste will still knock your socks off! BTW it comes from Eastern Europe not Japan…

    Amazon Verified Purchase(What’s this?)
This review is from: David’s Tomato Organic Japanese Black Trifele Tomato 20 Seeds

I bought 8 or 9 different kinds of seeds from Hirts Gardens here on Amazon, including these Japanese Tomato seeds. I was a little apprehensive at first about buying seeds online – I thought they might be old and would not sprout or grow well. But these sprouted the NEXT DAY and in just 2 weeks, I have tomato plants that are 4 inches high with FIVE sets of leaves!! WOW!! This is so KOOL! (I’m using an AeroGarden).
At first I thought it was a little weird that they “count” the number of seeds you get??? But then when I got them, I realized I would never plant 100 or 200 of anything, so why should I pay for all those seeds?? I got more than enough seeds for what I wanted at an unbelievably great price!
